Two Enchanting Holiday Ballet Performances in Marietta

Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre (GMDT) and The Georgia Ballet Present The Nutcracker

The holiday season in Marietta is always a magical time, and it’s even more enchanting with two outstanding productions of The Nutcracker Ballet by the Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre (GMDT) and The Georgia Ballet. These dance companies are set to captivate audiences with their performances, spreading the joy and wonder of the season.

The Nutcracker: A Holiday Tradition

The Nutcracker is a holiday classic that is performed each Christmas all over the world. This timeless ballet, with a memorable score composed by Tchaikovsky, is a ballet in two-acts that weaves an enchanting narrative. The story follows young Clara on her dreamlike adventure to The Land of Sweets, where she encounters a Sugar Plum Fairy, an army of mischievous mice, and a brave Nutcracker prince. For many, Christmas is incomplete without a viewing of The Nutcracker. Fortunately, in Marietta, two companies are performing the classic ballet this holiday season.

Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre (GMDT) Presents The Nutcracker

GMDT, a prominent dance company in Marietta, is renowned for its exceptional ballet performances. Their annual production of The Nutcracker is a true holiday highlight, and this year is no exception. GMDT’s interpretation of this family friendly ballet features brilliant sets, magnificent costumes, and their special effects spark awe and wonder. The cast of 135 talented dancers brings the story to life, making it a spellbinding experience.

When asked what contributes to the Nutcracker’s timeless appeal, Associate Artistic Director Gray Stoner said, “No matter if you are a patron of the arts or football, you know the Sugarplum Fairy dance when you hear it. I also believe the story of  the Nutcracker is timeless because for most of the ballet we are in a little girl’s imagination. This gives us the freedom to add changes in order to keep up with the times while still keeping the integrity of the story. It’s a tradition that people love, including everyone at GMDT.”

With six shows over Thanksgiving weekend, GMDT’s The Nutcracker is the perfect way to kick off the season!
