Love is Brewing on the Square: A Valentine’s Day Interview with Tuesday Coffee + Shoppe and Two Birds Taphouse

One of the most romantic days of the year is Valentine’s Day and it’s just around the corner. It is a holiday to celebrate love with our partners, friends or families.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Visit Marietta! To celebrate, we interviewed the owners of Tuesday Coffee + Shoppe and Two Birds Taphouse here on the Marietta Square, Andrew and Morgan Beatton and Jeff and Rachel Byrd. We asked them about running a business together as a married couple. We also asked them to share their perfect Valentine’s Day date in Marietta. Love is brewing on the Square.

Love is Brewing on the Square

“Andrew is the coffee. Morgan is all the pretty things.” The couple always hoped to have a shoppe one day where they could bring together two things they loved most, coffee and photography.

How long have you been together?
Andrew & Morgan: We dated long distance from Atlanta and London for about a year before getting married in 2015. Andrew then moved to the states and we landed in Marietta.

How long have you lived and been in business in Marietta?
Andrew & Morgan: We have lived in Marietta for about five years, and Tuesday has been around for just over one year.

I love this about Marietta?
Andrew & Morgan:  Marietta feels like the closest thing to England to us. The walkability, the Mom and Pop shops, but most importantly the community that is so supportive and caring for its own – it just quickly felt like home.

What would make up a “perfect” Valentine’s Day” date in Marietta for you? Andrew & Morgan:  A coffee date at Tuesday, of course, and for the evening we would walk up to the Square from home to stop in to our neighbors, Third Door for a couple of our favorite cocktails, then head over to Spring Restaurant – our absolute favorite. It is always such a special experience!

So, just how is this couple brewing up romance for you this month?

They will offer pink lattes and a seasonal syrup that is still in the making! With current offerings like “the Autumn” a coffee with house-made clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg syrup and “the Winter”  flavored with bourbon-brown sugar reduction with anise and orange bitters, we are looking forward to the flavors in their Valentine’s Day specials. Tuesday is serving a proper cup of coffee with true romance.

Two Byrds + Two Birds

“Jeff clearly ‘runs the show’ and I step in whenever he asks me to assist or participate in a particular issue. We have a great staff who supports him. Our son, Dan, and daughter-in-law, Lauren, presently reside in NYC but are very involved long distance with Two Birds social media presence, food and beverage menu development, and computer/online support.”

How long have you been together?
Rachel & Jeff: Jeff and I have been married for 39 years!

How long have you lived and been in business in Marietta?
Rachel & Jeff: We’ve lived in Marietta since our first child, Dan, was a year old, 37 years ago! We opened Two Birds in July 2016, so we’re coming up on our 7th anniversary. (The “Two Birds Taphouse” name actually refers to Jeff and Dan, the latter being the instigating and inspiring force of our new business! Lauren is the only one of the four of us who has hospitality experience — she helped open several restaurants in Los Angeles before moving here and “leading the way” on getting Two Birds up and running.)

I love this about Marietta?
Rachel & Jeff: I love the Square and all the exciting things that are happening in and around it. The small-town feel of it made for a great place to raise our family, which also includes our daughter, Molly, and our youngest son, Ryan. We all enjoy so many of the events Marietta offers — 4th of July parade, Taste of Marietta, Chalktoberfest, Christmas Tree Lighting, and more.

I especially love that our community has supported us since day one. And I love our customers, and that we have gotten to know several of them on a first-name basis.

What would make up a “perfect” Valentine’s Day” date in Marietta for you? Rachel & Jeff: A perfect Valentine’s Day date for me would be spent with Jeff, having a great meal with one of our signature cocktails (the “Suit & Thai” at Two Birds is my favorite) and ending with anything chocolate!

So, how are they planning on making your Valentine’s Day extra special?

Two Birds will have a specialty cocktail and entree available for Valentine’s Day- check out their instagram in February for details.
