The 5k is “Virtual” But The Fun Isn’t!

We’ve all had a crazy year and there’s no better way to work off some stress than a little exercise and an ice cold beer! While we normally would be hosting our large fall 5K race throughout the city of Marietta, we realize that times and comfort levels are different for everyone. Out of safety for our participants, this season’s 5K race will be “virtual.” Whether you run at home on the treadmill, run around your neighborhood, or pretend that you ran just so you can brag to your friends, we don’t care! Just help us raise some money for a great cause, Austen’s Army Foundation.

Participants in this year’s race will register through Eventbrite. Before the weekend of the event, runner’s will receive an email with a link to record their time based off of the honor system (don’t forget it’s for charity, ya’ll!). Participants are welcome to record their time at any point from noon on 10/3 through 6pm on 10/4. After completing their run and recording their time, participants can stop by the brewery to receive their complimentary racing t-shirt and two complimentary beverages to be consumed either onsite, or taken home, based off of the runner’s preference.
Prizes will be award to runner’s in the following categories (don’t forget – honor system!):

– Overall M/F- Overall Masters M/F
– Overall Grand Masters M/F
– Overall Sr. Masters M/F

Top 3 in all the regular 5 year age groups (10 & Under through 75+)

Austen’s Army Foundation is a nonprofit organization located outside of Atlanta dedicated to spreading awareness of rhabdomyosarcoma, and raising funds to support research earmarked specifically toward treatments for this disease that minimize toxicity to patients and maximize success rates. In the most basic of terms, rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of sarcoma. Sarcomas are cancers that develop from connective tissues in the body, such as muscles, fat, bones, the linings of joints, or blood vessels. Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common type of soft tissue sarcoma in children.

Austen was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in 2017 at the age of 4. This is a disease we didn’t even know existed. Within a few weeks, she had spent numerous days and nights at the hospital, undergone a full hysterectomy and began an intense 24-week protocol of chemotherapy.
